Scottish: Men's Pages

Tom Brewster and his team of Greg Drummond, Scott Andrews and Michael Goodfellow met Ewan MacDonald (above), Graeme Connal, Pete Loudon and Euan Byers in the Page 3-4 game at the Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Men's Curling Championship this afternoon. Three at the third end gave Brewster a 4-1 lead, but that slipped away and the teams were tied after eight. The ninth was blanked.

Without the hammer, Tom played a perfect draw behind cover with his last, leaving Ewan the draw to the tee for the win. As David Murdoch had been last night in a similar situation, Ewan was just inches heavy. Team MacDonald then exit the competition.

Linescores and all the results are here.

In the Page 1-2 game, David Edwards, John Penny, Scott Macleod and Colin Campbell were against David Smith, Warwick Smith, playing last stones, Alan Smith and Ross Hepburn. Swings and roundabouts in this one. Edwards played the worst shot I've seen him play all week in giving up four at the eighth when ahead 4-2. He was one down playing the last, without the hammer. He got the guard, and placed one round it. Warwick followed, David came on the other hand to tap it back, but Warwick made sure of the game - and a place in the final - by putting the last stone on the button. Edwards now drops to the semifinal this evening to meet Tom Brewster.

It's a busy place today with the BBC television crew getting set up for the coverage of tomorrow's games. I gather that both finals will be webcast live (see the BBC Scotland webpage), and highlights will go out BBC 2 Tuesday, February 21, 19.00, and on Wednesday, February 22, at the same time.

My curling photography mentor, Richard Gray, always says that the secret of a good action curling shot is to have a clear uncluttered background. But I had to include this one. David Edwards is in the head, with Ross Hepburn having a wee picnic cuppa behind!
