Team of the Weekend

Right, who was the 'Team of the Weekend? There are lots of candidates.

First nomination might be Gail Munro and her team, above, who won the RCCC Ladies' Branch Unders and Overs Competition. L-R: Willa Wilson, Rachel Mills, Dorothy Bulloch and Gail Munro. The results are here. Good competition by all accounts, Gail's side beating Marion MacDonald in the final.

A second suggestion could be Kyle Smith's side which won the Cardwell Garden Centre Braehead Open, photo here. Well done to the boys, but they're not my TofW.

Tom Brewster, Greg Drummond, Scott Andrews and Michael Goodfellow had a great run in the Swiss Cup Basel, the weekend Curling Champions Tour competition. They lost to Brad Gushue's Canadians, the eventual winners, in the semifinal. I saw some of this game on Laola1.tv. Good to watch. The Scots were in command for much of the game. The results can all be found here.

Logan Gray's team, last week's TotW, are nominated this weekend too. They went straight through to the quarters in Basel without loss until then. Not bad at all! Read a summary of the event here.

But my Team of the Weekend is Team Romania, at the European Mixed Championship in Taarnby, Denmark! Leslie Ingram-Brown reports that the world's newest curling nation beat Norway. He wrote yesterday, "This late afternoon draw brought about the big surprise to date when Romania, without last stone in the eighth end, defeated Norway 8-6. The game was tied 6-6 with Norway on the hammer. With last stone Romania's Allen Coliban played a perfect draw for a second shot. Ole Hauge for Norway had only to follow Romania into the house for the win but was wide and heavy from the outset and missed the lot. Game, set, and match to a very excited Romanian team, three of whom watched the last stone down the ice facing the wall!"

The results form the EMCC can all be found here. Scotland, with a win on Saturday, were not on the ice yesterday, but I note David, Kerry, Scott and Louise are in the same section as the Romanians! More from Taarnby later.
