Hannah Fleming's Scottish team won their opening game at the World Junior Championships in Oestersund, Sweden, this morning. Leslie Ingram-Brown reports:"With the hammer, Norway's Kristine Davanger took a single in the first end. Hannah Fleming, Lauren Gray, Alice Spence and Abi Brown blanked the second and counted a pair in the third. Norway was forced to take the single in the fourth before stealing a single in the fifth when Fleming missed a double, but only just.
Perhaps the half time break provided the necessary pep talk from coach Debbie Knox, but the sixth saw a different Scottish team. When Norway helped the Scots to a four with a tap up of a Scots stone, for the first time Fleming had the lead 6-3.
A miss by Davanger with her last stone in the seventh and the Scots had stolen a pair and with a single steal in the eighth it was all over.
After the game Fleming admitted to the slow start and she was happy the way the second half eventually resulted and that her team had the win.
Iveta Janatova's Czech Republic demolished Canada's Jocelyn Peterman in six ends 10-3 to record their country's first ever win over one of the superpowers of curling."
